So, imagine how Alex feels about local news. Dissemination of print news in his home town of Blackburn, Lancashire is exclusively provided by The Lancashire Telegraph, one of the many local newspapers run by Newsquest, itself a subsidiary of Gannett Company Inc., the largest newspaper publisher in the United States.
Blackburn is also occasionally littered with copies of The Shuttle, a vehicle produced by the local council, apparently for the sole purpose of autofellation.
Regularly, notable news slips by these publications, usually because if printed it would reflect negatively on the advertisers, the readership, or the public institutions of the town. This blog attempts to report that news.
More often than not, the reports you'll read in the local press lack some important details about the story, or will be framed to bend your mind to the political will of Gannett Inc. or the local council. This blog attempts to flesh out that information, and may change your perspective on the issues.
Of course, local news is also prime source material for satire. You'll find that in this blog too.
Why the bugle? Well, besides it being an awesome newspapery type name, the bugle features on Blackburn's Town Crest, and was the crest of William Henry Hornby, Blackburn's first MP and father of legendary Blackburnian sportsman Albert Nelson 'Monkey' Hornby.
The Blackburn Bugle accepts contributions, be they fully written articles ripe for the publishing, or interesting tidbits for us to research and report on. Please contact us by email if you have any low hanging fruit you'd like us to juice.
